About Harriet
Welcome to MyfanwyNia’s Studio, my name is Harriet and I am a visual artist, storyteller and collector of daydreams, living off-grid in Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands.
Here, in the windswept hills of County Leitrim’s mystical Iron Mountains, the landscape is whispered to be the arrival point of Ireland’s ancient fairy folk ‘the Tuatha Dé Danann’. The spirit of this place, its quiet magic and enchantment, can’t help but find its way into my creative world.
My work is rooted in a world of whimsy and wonder, one I’ve been building for years, filled with fairies, mermaids, plant spirits and all sorts of curious characters. More recently, cats in Victorian attire have been turning up in mid-century kitschy kitchens - spaces that feel like they belong to another realm where the nature of reality and our timelines differ. These characters often appear on the page as if they’re introducing themselves and I follow where they lead.
There’s a timeless nostalgia to the world they come from, part memory, part imagination and drawing them helps me express things I can’t always put into words.
I’ve been painting murals for over ten years now and still feel like I’m learning with every wall. I’m motivated by the challenge to keep improving and I feel incredibly privileged to have my work in public spaces. Collaborating with communities and schools has been especially meaningful, it brings a sense of purpose to what I do. I’m also a proud member of the Minaw Collective, a talented group of street-artists whose creativity, guidance and solidarity have shaped my journey in more ways than I can say.
Charcoal is where I feel most at home. I love the forgiving nature of the medium, moving delicate dust into soft shadows and then carving out light with crisp erased lines. Paint is more of a challenge for me, but I’m drawn to it for the growth it brings.
My work is often recognised for its anime influence, which indeed inspired me and shaped how I approach expression, movement and storytelling. Over time, my style has evolved into something distinctly my own: a blend of street art, pop surrealism, folklore and vintage children's books. I’m drawn to emotionally expressive characters, dreamy colour palettes, soft oddities and that blurry space where sweetness meets strangeness.
At its heart, my art is about storytelling and transformation. The characters I draw, often feminine, whimsical, or just a little haunted, seem to arrive fully formed, carrying symbols, secrets, or quiet questions. I think of my drawings as little mirrors, reflecting forgotten feelings or half-remembered dreams. There’s often something happening beneath the surface - an invisible thread that ties things together, but I like to leave space for others to find their own meanings too, companions for those who feel a bit out of step with the ordinary.
Over the years, my work has found its way into exhibitions, festivals, community projects and into the hands of art lovers through prints, apparel and illustrated treasures. I’ve honed my practice into what is now MyfanwyNia - a world I’ve built with so much love and care. I design every art product myself, using my original artwork and many of these are produced and hand-finished in my cosy home studio, under the watchful eyes of my three cats.
The name MyfanwyNia is a combination of my two middle names. Myfanwy, Welsh in origin meaning ‘my fine one’, always felt like the right name for my artist self - the part of me that creates: feeling my way through the work with intuition, emotion and a sense of connection. My logo, a heart with an eye, is a symbol of that way of being - of seeing the love around you, loving what you see and viewing the world through the lens of your heart and the things that bring you joy.
I feel deeply grateful to have connected with so many people who find joy, comfort, or a little bit of magic in what I create.
The world I draw from lives in the corners, where colour hums, faces flicker and something forgotten waits to be remembered.
If this world feels a little like yours too, I’m so happy you’re here.
